Ultrasound is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissue and blood flow inside the body. Ultrasound can be used to examine many parts of the body such as abdomen, pelvis, female reproductive organs, scrotum, breast, thyroid and more. Diagnostic ultrasound during pregnancy can be done for numerous indications and can provide reliable information on the health of the mother and the unborn baby. During your pregnancy, your doctor may want you to have an ultrasound to:
- Evaluate early pregnancy
- Estimate and confirm gestational age
- Monitor the baby's growth
- Check for the position of placenta
- Check baby's development and viability
- Check for twin pregnancy
- Check amniotic fluid levels
At MedRay Imaging, we will reveal the gender of your baby during 2D ultrasounds performed at 20 weeks or later. There is no need to pay for an another ultrasound just to determine the sex. However, if you want to start your baby's first photo album early you may be interested in our 3D/4D ultrasound option.
Diagnostic Ultrasound is not invasive and not painful. There is no ionizing radiation with ultrasound as found in x-rays. Ultrasound is very safe and there are no known risks to a pregnant woman or her unborn child. Diagnostic Ultrasound exams offered at Medray:
