A bone densitometry examination measures the density of your bones. Low bone density indicates an increased risk for fractures. Hip, spine and wrist fractures are the most common locations for bone fractures associated with osteoporosis.
A Bone Density test involves lying on a table for 10-15 minutes while a low dose x-ray beam scans your hip and spine. The test involves no pain & no risk other than very low radiation exposure (10% of the radiation of a chest x-ray).
