Screening Mammograms do NOT require a referral from your family doctor, however you must provide the name of your family doctor when you make the appointment for this exam.

Please have your BC Care Card or your SMP ID number ready.

Screening Mammograms are for healthy women with no known breast problems, who do not have a history of breast cancer or breast implants. All women in British Columbia between the ages of 40 and 79 are eligible for a screening mammogram every 2 years, at no charge.

Aging is the highest risk factor for breast cancer. Regular screening mammograms are one of the best ways to monitor your breast health because they can find most types of breast cancer early, usually before it has spread.
SCREENING MAMMOGRAPHY EXAM PREPARATION

On the day of the examination:

Do not apply deodorant, body powder or other material on your underarms or around the breasts.

As mammography is a scent free environment, please do not use any perfumes.

Wear clothing that can be removed from the waist up, you will be given a gown to wear during the examination.
